The work schedule for this position is:
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
The incumbent serves as a Consular Assistant in the American Citizen Services unit and handles a range of complex and sensitive cases/issues that may confront U.S. citizens in Germany that fall under the heading of Special Citizen Services. These include detentions, deaths, child custody disputes, instances of mentally ill Americans, and a range of non-emergency issues such as driver licenses, voting, local regulations, and taxes where the Consulate provides guidance and seeks to promote the overall welfare of Americans in Germany. In addition, the incumbent may also be expected to handle routine passport, nationality, citizenship, and notarial matters during daily public operating hours as needed based on service demand.
EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience in social services, consular, or legal fields dealing with the public are required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Strong familiarity with local laws and administrative policies impacting foreigners who travel or reside in Germany/Bavaria, such as registration, employment, housing, medical care, insurance, civil law and family law structure and realities.
Two years of post-secondary education in social services law, political science, international relations, history, language, or humanities are required.
LANGUAGE:
Language Level Fluent in English and German is required.
