The chair for “Governance in International Agribusiness”
affiliated with the TUM School of Management and the TUM School of Life Sciences offers a Ph.D. Student in Economics (health/food/agriculture) on the Freising-Weihenstephan Campus. The initial appointment will be 2 years with the possibility of extension. Payment will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Länder (75% TV-L E13). The preferable starting date is September/October 2023.
Tasks
The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in one (or more) of the following research areas:
a. Dietary choices, information, education, and knowledge about nutrition
b. Heterogeneity and trade-offs in food quality preferences and choices
c. Consumers' role in the transition to a sustainable food system
d. Food labels; Origin-based labels; Geographical Indications
e. Certifications, private governance in the agro-food sector
f. Regional, global, alternative, and sustainable agro-food value chains
g. Sustainable technology adoption in the agro-food sector
h. SMEs’ and smallholders’ access to high-quality food markets and modern retail chains
Additional Tasks:
- Contribute to teaching activities of the Chair
- Contribute to the research curricula development of the Chair
- Contribute to competitive project funding bids
- Contribute to the administration of the Chair
Qualifications
- An excellent Master‘s degree (preferably in economics or other social sciences)
- Proficiency in econometrics / quantitative methods
- Experience with experimental / behavioral economics research is an advantage
- Strong motivation to publish in international leading peer-review journals
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Knowledge of the German language is an advantage
- Background or proven knowledge of the agricultural sector and food value chains is an advantage
- Background or proven knowledge of nutrition or health-related issues is an advantage
- Personal initiative, commitment, and excellent team player
