Masterand Sensorfusion for Anticipatory Vehicle Detection at Night in Mönsheim bei Dr Ing h c F Porsche AG

The scope of this thesis is to develope a method which can localize point of occurance of an oncoming vehicle at night when the vehicle itself is not yet visible. The information that a vehicle will approach in the scene is given by light reflections, which are caused by the oncoming vehicle's headlights (e.g., light reflections on parking cars). Based on those light reflections, a concept is to be developed which gives information about where the vehicle will occur in the next frames. To sum up, your thesis will consist of the following:

• Research existing literature regarding similar work
• Brainstorm several possible approaches using a fusion of camera, GPS, and map data
• Define metrics to select one approach
• Evaluate the selected approach on a custom dataset
• Document your results scientifically
• In case of excellent results, contribute to a research paper on a top conference or journal

• Study in Computer Science
• Ideally with a focus on Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or similar
• Experience in Computer Vision & Machine Learning - Experience in working with GPS and map data is a plus
• Good programming skills & experience in Python (OOP, versioning, testing)
• English and/or German
• Strong analytical thinking
• Research affinity
• Self-driven, goal-oriented mindset
• Structured way of working and ability to drive your own project forward
