Substitutes work under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, teacher's assistant, or other supervising teachers. Substitutes provide short-term coverage for staff vacations, absences, seasonal sessions and/or temporary periods of high enrollment. Substitute assist with providing educational instruction and childcare using the age-appropriate curriculum provided by the school. The substitute is responsible for adhering to and implementing the policies outlined the staff handbook.
Key duties include:
Following established routines while establishing relationships with the children enrolled in the school and their parents by greeting them when they arrive and depart from school.
Assisting classroom personnel with implementing age-appropriate activities and assists the teacher in preparation and assembling all supplies needed for the lesson plan.
Promoting the school in a positive manner, including carrying a professional attitude in community activities.
Demonstrating a consistent and professional attitude toward the accomplishment of school and program goals.
Ensuring a safe, supportive, and healthy environment; supporting teachers and staff in creating and maintaining a positive school climate; assisting in managing behavior in the classroom and in other school-related settings.
Assisting teachers in preparing materials, anticipating what is needed, and organizing necessary paperwork.
Working with a small group of children during seasonal (camp) sessions and special events.
Monitoring a small group of students in the classroom while the teacher is working with other students in another part of the room.
Monitoring a small group of students in a classroom, gym, or playground.
Communicating all relevant concerns to teachers and, when appropriate, to parents.
Assisting in the changing of diapers, toilet training, teeth brushing etc.
Assisting school staff in arranging special school events.
Cleaning and sanitizing toys, furniture, and other surfaces as needed.
Completing other duties as specified by the supervising teacher, School Director, and Registrar.
Qualifications:
Must be fluent in English
Ability to work with small children; flexibility
Ability to work as part of a team
Working hours: We are closed on German and American holidays. The position hours are as-needed.
