The Advocacy Officer directly reports to the Heads of Berlin Advocacy Unit and is part of the GD department and is responsible to develope strategies and advocacy plans on climate crisis and its affects on humanitarian contexts as well as on food security and nutrition. The Humanitarian officer takes over content responsibility (research, text production etc.) over a set of priority advocacy dossiers in coordination with the Head of BeAU. The Humanitarian officer also supports the strategic goals of BeAU to ensure that key stakeholders in government and parliament as well as NGOs, academia and other relevant sectors of civil society are aware of and support MSF’s primary concerns and priorities related to the needs of its patients and the organization’s ability to help them. This includes influencing government policy-making and action in relevant areas and shaping the policies and actions of German NGOs active in humanitarian work.t advocacy activities (like events, letters and other forms of communication etc.).
In your role you will
- Identify priorities for MSF regarding our work on climate crisis and food security
- Develope and roll-out of advocacy strategies and plans; identification and power mapping of relevant actors inside and outside MSF.
- Research and create evidence-based content; development of content in alliances with other relevant stakeholders.
- Engage and network with relevant political contacts in parliament and ministries, private sector, academic, civil society organizations as well as international teams of MSF
- Prepare memos, reports and dossiers to be used internally and externally for advocacy purposes; track advocacy related developments and information including list serves, meetings, calls, media, and publications and identification of advocacy opportunities and targets.
- Organise and track advocacy activities; support internal reporting and planning processes.
- Support other priorities of MSF operations as well as humanitarian crisis as needed
You Have
- High expertise on climate crisis, expertise on food security and nutrition in humanitarian settings, skills to identify political opportunities and influence debates and decisions in favor of MSF’s operational priorities.
- Profound experience in advocacy work in Germany as well as representation and public speaking; Confident command of a wide range of advocacy tools
- High ability to monitor relevant dossier landscape, researching and monitoring of the positioning and policies of German government, civil society and other stakeholders on key areas of MSF interest.
- High agility and flexibility in strategic and critical thinking, managing various topics at a fast pace and professional level, openess to also cover attoc priorities outside of climate crisis or food security
- Relevant academic degree (Law, Politics, humanitarian degree or similar)
- Team player with a can-do attitude and the ability to handle a high workload.
- Fluent in German and English
- Commitment to the aims and principles of MSF; knowledge of and prior work with MSF are an asset

- Payment according to a transparent internal salary structure; in this position according to group 4 with full-time employment (40h/week) from 3.714 Euro to a maximum of 4.698 Euro, depending on the relevant professional experience
