The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the University of Passau invites
applications for the tenured civil-service post of
Professorship of Didactics of English Language, Literature and Culture
(pay grade W2)
You will represent the subject of English didactics in research and teaching and for all contexts
where English teachers are trained, be it for a formal school setting or non-school education.
Your research interests will be focused on questions of foreign-language acquisition, while
paying special attention to current areas of language and literature didactics or the didactics of
intercultural and transcultural learning. They should be compatible with research projects of
the University of Passau in linguistics, literary studies, cultural studies or media studies as well
as empirical teaching–learning research and/or research on second- or foreign-language
acquisition. A focus on digital teaching and learning would be desirable. Applicants should
have an excellent research track record, including in international projects, where possible.
Duties include teaching and carrying out examinations in English subject didactics in current
and future Teacher Education Programmes, bachelor's and master's degree programmes,
including setting and carrying out state examinations in English subject didactics; furthermore,
participation in academic self-governance and the supervision of students during practice
teaching at schools. University teaching competency and a willingness to become involved in
the Teacher Education Centre (ZLF) are expected. You will also be expected to teach classes
in English. Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects as
well as active participation in interdisciplinary third-party funded projects and international
exchange programmes would be desirable. Cooperation with other subject didactics
departments at the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies and adjacent disciplines is
required in view of the faculty's interdisciplinary profile. Finally, you should provide evidence of
at least three years of teaching experience at schools or comparable educational institutions
after obtaining the qualification for work as an English teacher at a state school.
