ECMWF
We are recruiting for a new role as Data Visualisation Developer (A2) for the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) in our Forecasts and Services Department.
CAMS publishes air quality, greenhouse gas, solar radiation and other atmospheric composition datasets. The data is available from the Atmosphere Data Store (https://ads.atmosphere.copernicus.eu/), but visualisation of the data is also used on the CAMS website. Data visualisation is a critical tool to facilitate the communication of environmental information and data to audiences including scientists, decision makers, the media, and the public. We are implementing a new greenhouse gas emission monitoring service (CO2MVS), within our Copernicus responsibilities to the European Commission, which will produce global and local emissions data products. These data products will require novel methods to visualise the information in a meaningful and digestible way to a wide user-base.
Your role will be to develop compelling and insightful data visualisations to increase the understanding of environmental issues. You will be responsible to integrate the routine production of these visualisations into ECMWF's operational suites and to publish them on the CAMS website and on other external portals. CAMS has become known worldwide as a reliable and authoritative voice in the field of environmental monitoring and such visualisations are a key tool in communicating the complexities of the data to a wide audience. For the CO2MVS activity a new suite of visualisation products and tools will need to be developed. In this role you will work closely with scientists and experts in ECMWF and beyond, as well as with the communications team at ECMWF. You will work within the Production Services Section and report to the CAMS Products Lead.
This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic individual with relevant technical skills and a keen interest in global environmental issues. You will be joining a vibrant international environment, collaborating with talented scientists, software engineers, science writers and communication specialists, working on state-of-the-art infrastructure and providing valuable contributions to cutting-edge environmental services.
The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is a world-leader in weather and environmental forecasting. As an international organisation we serve our members and the wider community with global weather predictions and data that is critical for understanding and solving the climate crisis. We function as a 24/7 research and operational centre with a focus on medium and long-range predictions, holding one of the largest meteorological data archives in the world. The success of our activities builds on the talent of our scientists and experts, strong partnerships with 35 Member and Co-operating States and the international community, some of the most powerful supercomputers in the world, and the use of innovative technologies and ML across our operations.
ECMWF has also developed a strong partnership with the European Union and has been entrusted with the implementation and operation of the Climate Change and Atmosphere Monitoring Services of theEU Copernicus Programme. We also contribute to the Copernicus Emergency Management Service. Other areas of work include High Performance Computing and the development of digital tools that enable ECMWF to extend provision of data and products covering weather, climate, air quality, fire and flood prediction and monitoring.
