The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF is one of the world's leading research institutions in the fields of III-V semiconductors and synthetic diamond. Together with our partners from industry and science, we research and develop electronic, optoelectronic and quantum technological components and systems. The focus is on research and development for applications in the fields of security, health, energy, information and communication.
The heterogeneous or monolithic integration of various passive and active optical components is becoming an increasingly interesting option for areas beyond the more established VIS and NIR wavelengths. For the longer wavelength infrared range and for non-classical light sources, concepts from III-V technology, which we have been developing at Fraunhofer IAF for a long time, can be used.
What you will do
- Together with your colleagues from the "Optoelectronics" department, you will develop concepts for integrated photonic components for various applications, especially in the medium and long-wave infrared range.
- You will acquire new research projects and lead their development at Fraunhofer IAF.
- You will discuss the implementation and realization possibilities with colleagues from the "Epitaxy" and "Technology" departments.
- You will develop new optical measurement techniques in line with requirements and implement them at Fraunhofer IAF.
- Furthermore, you will support the supervision of master's and doctoral students.
- Further on, you will be involved in the further strategic development of this topic and in networking with project partners from research and industry.
What you bring to the table
- You have a university degree (diploma/master's degree) in physics, optics, photonics or a comparable subject and a PhD.
- You also have experience in integrated photonic components, including design, technological implementation and optical metrology.
- Furthermore, you have gained know-how in the acquisition and management of research projects.
- Fluent English and ideally fluent German, team orientation, communication skills and enjoyment of experimental work round off your profile.
What you can expect
- An open and team-oriented corporate culture
- A modern, well-equipped and international working environment with space for independent work and creative participation
- A working environment with varied projects, a team with extensive expertise in III-V technologies, semiconductor lasers, non-classical light sources, detectors, component simulation and assembly technology
- Professional and personal development opportunities through a wide range of further training opportunities
- Extensive additional benefits such as a company pension scheme (VBL), job ticket and various sports activities (e.g. Pilates)
- A family-friendly workplace with offers for balancing family and career
- Opportunities for international cooperation and participation in conferences
The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability.
With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
