Due to the steadily growing business and the expansion of our portfolio, the Research & Development (R&D) group
(part of our Engineering Division) in Krefeld (near Düsseldorf, Germany) is looking for an experienced
Senior Design Engineer (m/f/d) /
for Air Separation Units

The engineering department of our company handles the development and construction of plants for the production of
technical and medical gases as well as for the production and use of "green hydrogen".
This involves projects of various sizes on an industrial scale with investment volumes of up to €100 million.

Your responsibilities:


Identification of operational and/or design potentials in Messer industrial gas production plants world-wide.

Evaluation of the current state of the art and technology and development of concepts and designs for main
equipment in new build plants.

Technical specification, configuration, design and review of main components/equipment within cryogenic air
separation units (ASU), with an emphasis on the optimization of known designs and further development,
chiefly of heat exchanger equipment as well as distillation columns.


Interfacing with our suppliers world-wide in R&D projects and monitoring of manufacturing quality.

Cooperation with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the Project Leaders in our Engineering Division and
our local subsidiary companies to ensure correct and timely implementation of new equipment in plants, and
participation in commissioning activities.


Follow-up, troubleshooting and evaluation of equipment after commissioning.

Your skills:
You have an engineering background with a degree in process and/or mechanical engineering, or equivalent
qualifications. You have at least five years’ experience in the industrial gas or specialty gas sectors, either in plant
operations, technical development or design and engineering.
In addition you have:


Experience in the design and configuration of cryogenic air separation units.

Understanding of the thermo- and fluid dynamics of distillation and heat transfer.

Sound understanding of mechanical construction schemata and drawings and piping and instrumentation
diagrams.

Fluency in written and spoken English, good German language skills desirable.

Willingness to travel (approx. 20%).

Schengen-area work permit/visa or citizenship.

Ability to work in a team, high flexibility and intercultural competence with international teams.
