MITRE is looking for energetic and talented people to join our team working across our sponsors in Europe and Africa to solve critical sponsor challenges for a safer world. We have a current opening with our team at Ramstein Air Base, Germany to lead MITRE’s project supporting US Air Forces Europe-Air Forces Africa (USAFE-AFAFRICA), the air component to both US European Command (USEUCOM) and US Africa Command (USAFRICOM).
The ideal timing for candidate relocation for this position is between November 2023 - March 2024.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Lead MITRE’s mission-based systems engineering efforts at USAFE-AFAFRICA to address the command’s critical mission needs, document operational requirements, identify relevant emerging technologies, and create advanced solutions to address USAFE-AFAFRICA mission challenges.
Lead the strategic direction, work shaping, budgets, staffing, program execution and provide leadership to Germany- and CONUS-based personnel in the day-to-day management of MITRE’s Defense and Military Intelligence Program (MIP) projects at USAFE-AFAFRICA.
Work closely and collaboratively with:
- Senior sponsors across USAFE-AFAFRICA to include overall command leadership and leaders within command intelligence, operations, technology/data operations, modeling/analytics, and logistics.
- Subject matter experts across the command, including military, government civilian, contractor, and FFRDC/UARC personnel.
- An integrated, federated MITRE team demonstrating strong teamwork and cooperation.
Team with department leadership from MITRE’s Air & Space Forces Center and Joint & Services Center to establish project priorities that are aligned with both Command and MITRE strategies, priorities, and outcomes.
As in individual contributor, lead and contribute to MITRE’s USAFE-AFAFRICA work program via subject matter expertise in one or more of the following domains and/or technical disciplines:
- Domain Expertise: 1) Intelligence, Surveillance, & Reconnaissance Operations; 2) Command & Control; 3) Integrated Air & Missile Defense; 4) Counter Integrated Air Defense Systems; and/or 5) Defense Security Cooperation & Capacity Building.
- Technical Expertise: 1) ISR Capabilities (airborne & overhead); 2) Tactical Communications; 3) Cloud (DoD mission integration focus); 4) Ops Analysis / Ops Research; and/or 5) Data Operations
Selected candidates will demonstrate the following:
Strategic Leadership. Define appropriate FFRDC tasks and strategic objectives for USAFE-AFAFRICA. Guide daily execution of sponsor support and ensure meaningful data driven products are developed in a timely and relevant manner. Actively collaborate with other MITRE projects supporting related sponsors/tasks/objectives to ensure maximum value and impact across MITRE’s sponsors.
Interpersonal Skills. Provide and support team leadership by partnering closely with both senior military leaders and action officers to identify operational and engineering challenges, potential solutions, and communicate project goals and impacts clearly and effectively.
