Electrification of the transportation and decarbonization of the automotive industry, powered by renewable energy, is an important component of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction efforts. Motivated by policy guidance and economic incentives, the number of newly registered battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) is growing fast. Despite falling battery costs, new electric vehicles (EVs) are usually more expensive conventional cars of the same class. Through Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, EV owners can generate additional revenue by using the EV battery to serve various applications during idle time to improve economics. With bi-directional charging, the EV battery can be a buffer for the fluctuant generation of a home PV system or form an EV pool and improve grid power quality by stabilizing its frequency and voltage. The owners can also trade on the spot market to arbitrage and charge their vehicles with low electricity prices. The central tasks associated with this position are:
- Support in model development
- Data collection and management
- Preparation and visualization of results
