Responsibilities

The design of production systems and mechanical seals from a hygienic perspective is becoming increasingly important in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Hygienic design gives microorganisms such as bacteria or fungi little opportunity to establish themselves and multiply. It also enables the systems to be cleaned quickly and thoroughly.
As part of this thesis, design guidelines and a test methodology for the hygienic design of mechanical seals will be further developed and defined. Particular attention should be paid to mechanical seals for agitators, mixers and kneaders.
The thesis should include the following points:
Research on the state of the art
Benchmark studies
Analysis of preferred customer requirements
Analysis of the hygienic designs used at EagleBurgmann
Taking samples and conducting experiments
Further development of an existing test methodology
Design of test devices
Definition of design guidelines

Qualifications

Enrolled student (f/m/d) in mechanical engineering, process engineering, food technology or a comparable course of study
Basic knowledge of statistical experimental design and implementation
Basic knowledge of 3D CAD, preferably Solid Edge
Careful, structured and independent way of working
High willingness to learn and work hard
Good knowledge of German and English, both spoken and written
