For our new Smith+Nephew Academy in central Munich (close to Kustermannpark / Ostbahnhof), we are looking for a Medical Education Manager (f/m/x) with a focus on Procedural Skills Training to join our team.
In this role you are reporting into the Senior Director Global Lab Strategy & Medical Education Delivery and you are responsible for the management of the procedural training space within the Smith+Nephew Academy, Munich. This includes the team of Procedural Training Specialists. The Procedural Skills Training team engages Allied Healthcare Professionals (AHPs) and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) by providing consultation and skill enhancement educational opportunities relative to key products and procedures across all S+N business units. This engagement occurs during Smith+Nephew events and third-party events occurring within Smith+Nephew Academy, Munich.
As the Manager of Procedural Skills Training you will lead and develop the Procedural Skills Training team. This team is critical in facilitating education, specific to emerging and current orthopaedic procedures, products, and techniques (including e.g. Robotic Surgery and VR technology). In this position you are working collaboratively with guidance for complex situations. You are expected to lead by example, with a hands-on approach, working alongside the team. This role is expected to communicate with AHPs and HCPS at an elevated level of understanding about the surgical methods being demonstrated in the lab. Additionally, the role is responsible for the compliance of the centre to local authorities and regulations.
What will you be doing?

Provide expert practical guidance by managing all aspects of the Munich Academy lab, inclusive of the lab personnel and relationships with key suppliers.

Work closely with the internal Medical Education and Marketing partners accross Business Units, staying ahead of product launches.

Alignment with our Global Procurement for cadaveric tissue / human tissue specimens vendor identification, selection, and RFP development as well as with our internal facility and other functions to ensure the Munich Academy is equipped with technology required to deliver best-in-class medical education.

Ensure surgical training sessions are delivered, exceeding the needs of the customers and the business. Actively participating in the surgical training sessions and always ensuring compliance with local SOPs and the local governing bodies.

Working closely across franchises (e.g. Sales, Sales Training, Medical Education, Research & Development, Marketing) to facilitate medical professional visits to conduct training on the safe and effective use of Smith+Nephew products.

Maintenance of laboratory equipment, and stock levels (e.g. equipment upkeep, specimen care, control of consumables and PPE stock) as well as general laboratory housekeeping duties such as regular deep cleans.

Responsible for adherence to all HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) requirements including lab maintenance and site related recordkeeping. Ensure cadaveric material is acquired, stored, used, and disposed of in accordance with the local codes of practice.

Ensure continued Training and Compliance, e.g. by writing and reviewing SOPs and risk assessments.
What will you need to be successful?

Relevant scientific degree or professional training (e.g. trained surgical nurse / surgical assistant or medical device consultant)

Min. 3 years experience working in Medical Education including surgical / laboratory experience and providing practical training

Experience of working with health care professionals, particularly in a surgical setting

Knowledge of surgical products and procedures relevant to S+N’s areas of business (e.g. orthopedics, sports medicine, reconstruction and/or trauma)

Awareness of health and safety precautions in handling biological materials

Experience working in a customer-facing role and high level of attention to detail

Strong competencies when it comes to service orientation, communication and leadership

Exceptionally well organised and self-directed, able to make decisions and act with limited supervision
