Hey I’m David, and I started Discove.xyz to be the best way to discover things on the internet. It’s a social media app built on top of the Farcaster decentralized social protocol. Discove is participating in a16z crypto startup school as one of 26 teams out of more than 8000 applicants, and has secured $500K in funding as part of this accelerator. Before Discove I was the CTO & Founder at Deedmob where my team and I built the biggest volunteering marketplace in the Netherlands.

What is Discove?

Discove is an app built on top of Farcaster, a decentralized social protocol that I think has a real shot at liberating the internet’s communities from the walled-garden stagnation of twitter, facebook, instagram, etc. What makes Discove different is that Discove makes it easy for anyone to create micro social apps within Discove and share them with others. The way that Discove does this is by powerful but easy to use tools to create algorithmic feeds, and secondly by allowing the community to permissionlessly create feed plugins that supplement the content with interactive experiences. A concrete example that someone from the community has created is be a feed of music shared on Farcaster, with plugins to allow inline playing of music from Spotify, Apple music and Soundcloud.

At what stage is Discove?

I’ve been building and iterating on an initial version of Discove since October 2022, and it’s grown to a small but growing community of active users. It’s getting to the point where I probably shouldn’t be trying to do all the things myself, and I’d love to bring two people on board this adventure with me. There’s an incredible mobile app to build and grow, and many product improvements and experiments to run.

What kind of company do I want to create?

I would like to create a calm, entirely async and remote company, without bureaucracy or micromanagement. I would like to hire the very best, pay them well, and then get out of people’s way to allow them to do their best work. I would like to keep internal meetings to a minimum (

2 years of search or social feed engineering with some experience with recommender algorithms
Effective async communication skills
The ability to make good decisions independently with loose constraints
