Scientist (m/f/d) for Management and use of Bentho-Pelagic Sylt Roads Time Series

Background
Embedded within the framework of the AWI Coastal Ecology section, we seek a dynamic post doc for the management of LTOs and development of LTER research which links benthic and pelagic processes, via biogeochemistry in coastal marine ecosystems. This scientist should be a communicative, team-oriented and ambitious scientist (m/f/d) for the Candidate should have expertise in benthic ecology, bentho-pelagic coupling, and the analysis of spatial and temporal long-term data series. The Sylt-Roads Data Time Series plays an integral role in the research conducted at the AWI Wadden Sea Station Sylt providing scientific knowledge on the consequences of coastal ecosystem change, de-eutrophication and carbon dynamics on sedimentary coastal ecosystems. These data also provide fundamental information for large-scale, national and international projects and ecosystem comparisons.

Tasks

Maintaining Sylt Roads Time Series and associated online data products.
Connection of Sylt Roads data to other benthic and pelagic time series in the North Sea (including the Helgoland Roads Time Series) and integrate the Sylt LTER data into international and national LTER Programmes.
Development of LTER research which links benthic and pelagic processes, via biogeochemistry in coastal marine ecosystems.
Analysis of long-term shifts in environmental conditions on the interplay of pelagic and benthic communities.
Close collaboration with hydrodynamic modelling expertise at AWI (FESOM-C) and the Helgoland Time Series group is expected.

Requirements

PhD degree and work experience in the bio/geo sciences (e.g. biogeochemistry, community ecology, ecosystem dynamics, geography, geology), and the ability to independently develop and pursue interdisciplinary research
Experience with quality control of biogeochemical data, processing and interpretation of time series and large-scale data sets
Proven ability in statistical methods, R and modeling for interpretation of data elucidating changes in ecosystem dynamics and function will be highly ranked
An excellent scientific publication track-record.
Ability to mentor students and advise colleagues using the Sylt-Roads data
Networking within the field of coastal research, both nationally and internationally, and to initiate and further collaborations both within and outside the AWI.
Fluency in English, with German as an asset.

This is a full-time position, limited to 3 years. It is also suitable for part-time employment. The salary will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federation (Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes, TVöD Bund), up to salary level 14. The place of employment will be Sylt.
