R&D Team Lead - Gene Editing

Role purpose:
An exciting opportunity has arisen at our Cologne site for a Team Lead to support the development of Lonza transfection products, working at the forefront of enabling technologies for Cell & Gene Therapies. You will lead a team of Research Assistants towards this goal and support and guide their growth and development.
Applicants must have knowledge and expertise in gene editing methods with broad expertise and knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology, and cell-based analysis methods. Previous management experience is desirable but not essential. This role includes occasional travel to conferences and customers (including overseas travel).
Key responsibilities:
Manage or participate in developing novel cell engineering products and applications for bioresearch and pharmaceutical discovery, and the bioprocessing market.
Supervise Research Associates, review performance, agree personal development plans, and provide timely constructive feedback.
Design and establish current cell engineering topics in primary cells and cell lines (e.g. CRISPR/Cas or transposition-based gene editing) including design and execution or supervision of experiments, data analysis, and data preparation.
Independent planning and implementation of scientific methods and approaches closely connected to cell and gene therapy applications.
Presents project and program progress and outcomes at group and department meetings. Prepares and delivers professional presentations at national and international scientific conferences.
Constantly expands skill set and enhances relevant knowledge, by keeping up with literature, interacting with scientists, industry experts, and attending scientific conferences.
Key requirements:
PhD level education in a relevant biological field, or equivalent level of knowledge.
Profound knowledge and expertise in designing and applying gene editing methods. Advanced and specialized expertise in gene editing, such as CRISPR, and related cell and gene therapy applications.
A strong, customer-focused philosophy. Understands what internal and/or external customers need from him/her to deliver in his/her respective role.
Broad expertise and knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology, and cell-based analysis methods.
Previous team management experience or experience in developing team members is desirable.
Business fluency in English and German, both written and spoken.
