The Department of Mathematics at Technical University of Darmstadt invites applications for several (non-permanent) qualification positions as

Research Assistants (all genders)

in part-time or full-time with fixed-term employment contracts to be filled as of 1. April 2024. For further details see information below.

The positions are classified according to pay group 13 of the TU Darmstadt collective agreement (TV-TU Darmstadt).

Job description

• Mathematical research in an interesting and stimulating environment,
• Teaching within the programme of courses offered by the department.

Requirements

• M.Sc.-degree or equivalent in mathematics or a related subject with final grades above average
• interest in research and teaching (primarily in German)

The goal of the position is the completion of a PhD, under supervision of a professor in one of the research areas represented in the Department of Mathematics, see our working groups. The period of employment is 3 years initially.

In case of applicants with an outstanding completed PhD, the position can be a Research Associate/Postdoc position, leading to further academic qualifications through scientific publications and cooperations. In this case, the period of contract is, initially, 2 years and the position aims at qualification for an Assistant Professorship or for a further postdoc phase.

We are looking for applicants who would like to gain academic qualification in one of the following areas:

• Numerics of incompressible two-phase flows (Prof. Bothe) - 1 full-time position
• Harmonic Analysis and PDEs (Prof. Egert) - 1 part-time position (50 %)
• statistical literacy (Prof. Krüger) - 1 part-time position (75%)
• history of mathematics education (Prof. Krüger) - 1 part-time position (75%)
• Nonlinear Optimization / Optimization in Data Analysis / Optimization with Partial Differential Equations (Prof. Ulbrich) - 1 full-time position

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.
