Position Summary
The Training & Safety Manager will work in an instructional role to develop the technical expertise of Plug Power’s Field Service Technician population. As a technical trainer, this role is responsible to develop programs to provide detailed technical instruction in the areas of fuel cell system troubleshooting and repair and cryogenic industrial gas system operation and maintenance. This role is also critical to provide training related to work safety and OSHA standards to ensure that employees are focused upon safe work operations. The Training & Safety Manager must be familiar with all OSHA standards and have experience in developing curriculum for technical work process instruction. This role is recognized as a technical lead and will serve as an advisor and mentor to other Field Service staff. This role will require travel to meet the needs of the position up to 50% of the time.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical expertise for Plug Power products and systems.
- Implement and deliver technical work instruction in a variety of mediums and settings including: classroom, in-field and remote training instruction.
- Continually monitor training effectiveness and evolve programs to improve training outcomes.
- Develop metrics to measure technical expertise in the field; identify knowledge gaps and create training programs to address these gaps thereby helping to improve technician knowledge and productivity.
- Couple technical training efforts with programs focused upon customer service and interpersonal skills thereby helping to foster a well-rounded technician population.
- Assist to develop, plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and national regulations including those governed by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
- Manage safety programs which includes developing, administering and documenting all trainings performed for Field Service.
- Advise leadership team on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.
- Maintain all safety files and records
- Perform safety inspections and surveys; prepare reports of findings and make recommendations on preventative measures where necessary.
- Conduct post-accident investigations, prepare reports identifying possible accident causes and hazards; present recommendations for solutions to these hazards in the future.
- Assist in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Associates degree in education, engineering, business or related field of study; bachelors degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant technical work experience with electro-mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time throughout Europe.
- Prior experience as a technical trainer/instructor is highly preferred.
- Proven skill set with a variety of computer and software programs including: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and others.
- Demonstrated ability to identify knowledge gaps and develop relevant learning programs to improve internal knowledge.
- EH&S expertise and experience; familiarity with OSHA standards and regulations.
- Experience as a teacher or educator highly valued.
- Ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences and stakeholders while responding to questions from groups of managers, employees and the leadership team.
- Ability to write reports and procedural manuals.
- Experience with SOPS preferred.

- Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.
- Excellent follow-through.
- Proven leadership, teamwork and flexibility to manage changes in projects and priorities.
