ADVA’s Advanced Technology team develops the optical networking technology of the future and initiates their transition into ADVA’s products.
There is an opportunity for a highly motivated and creative engineer or computer scientist to join our Advanced Technology team in Meiningen, Munich or Berlin and to work towards a PhD degree.
Principle duties and essential functions

Participation in the research and development projects of the Advanced Technology team
-
Internal subproject lead for research and advanced development projects
-
Development, experimental characterization and evaluation of devices for optical transmission
-
Development, setup and maintenance of measurement setup for transmission tests
-
Support of definition and application for publicly funded projects
-
Creative application of knowledge and experience in the following fields: o Assembly and packaging of optical devices and photonic integrated circuits on a variety of materials (InP, Si, polymers, etc.)
o Modulation and detection of high-speed optical signals
o Measurement of high-speed electrical signals
Supplementary Tasks:

Cooperation with external project partners

Presentation of research and development results at internal and external conferences

Support of transfer of research results into product development

Preparation of a doctoral dissertation in the field of photonic components and packaging
Knowledge, skills and experience required
-
Diploma / Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or other related area
-
Good knowledge in optical transmission technologies (WDM, QPSK, QAM)
-
Ideally experience with one or more of the following topics: packaging of photonic components, photonic integration technology, optical transmission experiments, RF technology, mechanical and/or thermal package design

Hands-on laboratory experience Simulation experience (optical, RF, thermal)

Good programming skills (Matlab, Python, etc.)

Good presentation and communication skills

Innovative, highly motivated personality

Fluent in oral and written English, preferably also in German

Capability to think strategic, innovative, constructive and application oriented
