The Scientific Software Center (SSC) at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing, Heidelberg University, aims to improve sustainability of research software and professionalization of its development. Research Software Engineer (f/m/d)
Your tasks:
- Development of scientific software for research projects in close consultation with researchers
- Advising researchers at Heidelberg University on the development and use of research software and on research data management issues
- Conception and implementation of further training courses on research software topics
Your profile:
- Preferably a doctoral degree, but MSc are also encouraged to apply
- Experience with research software development during university study and/or completion of Master’s / PhD / further academic employment
- Excellent knowledge of at least one programming language relevant to the scientific community, e.g. Python, C/C++, JavaScript
- Preferably a background in one of the following: bioinformatics, life sciences
- Good knowledge of good software development practice: version control, documentation, CI/CD etc.
- Independent, structured way of working
- Ability to work in teams and communicate progress
- Very good knowledge of English

The position is limited to three years and can be divided part-time..
