For our Modelling and Analytics team based in Munich we are looking for a Climate Risk Specialist. In this exciting role you will utilize your skills and passion to work with our experts to develop and implement climate services to Munich Re’s Location Risk Intelligence Platform.
As a successful Climate Risk Specialist you need to have a deep understanding of climate risks and outstanding interpersonal skills to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders.
Your Responsibilities
- Subject matter expert for physical climate change impacts
- Developing and improving physical climate risk models with focus on climatological events such as extreme temperature, precipitation, drought, wildfire
- Identifying, evaluating and validating global and local datasets for describing climate-sensitive hazards, with a focus on future climate scenarios
- Supporting modelling initiatives to quantify climate change influence on natural catastrophes
- Driving research collaborations with leading scientific institutions and professional consultants
- Collaborating with stakeholders across the Munich Re group in multidisciplinary environment
- Providing physical climate risk expertise both internally to Munich Re staff and to clients
Your Requirements
- Degree in (Climate-)Physics, Earth/Climate Sciences, Meteorology, or a related quantitative discipline
- Relevant experience in climate risk modelling, ideally in the context of climatological and meteorological risks
- In-depth understanding of climate change impacts
- Profound computing and programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++)
- Experience using GIS products is a plus
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Well-developed ability to work in a team, as well as good presentation skills and client focus
- Very good communication skills in English and German
