Overview:
GovCIO is currently hiring for a Data Center Engineer to support DoD organizations and USAFRICOM. This position will be located in Stuttgart Germany and will be an onsite only position.
Responsibilities:
Designs and develops system architectures, and defines key capabilities and performance requirements. Defines total systems design and technology maturity constraints in accordance with mission requirements. Develops systems and system element architecture and design and interface definitions. Defines system implementation approach and operational concept. Develops models and architectural guidelines for current and future system development. Ensures requirements are met and evaluates performance with customer.
- Interfaces with the user(s) and all other stakeholders in order to determine their needs.
- Generates the highest level of system requirements, based on the user's needs and other constraints such as cost and schedule.
- Performs cost-benefit analyses to determine whether requirements are best met by manual, software, or hardware functions; making maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf or already developed components.
- Designs and develops solutions to applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns.
- Develops partitioning algorithms (and other processes) to allocate all present and foreseeable requirements into discrete partitions such that a minimum of communications is needed among partitions, and between the user and the system.

Data Center Operations:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the data center, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including hardware upgrades, firmware updates, and system patches.
- Monitor data center infrastructure to proactively identify and address potential issues.
Server and Network Infrastructure:
- Install, configure, and maintain server hardware, including rack-mounted servers and blade systems.
- Collaborate with network engineers to ensure seamless connectivity and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and network-related issues.
Data Center Security:
- Implement and maintain physical security measures to protect data center assets.
- Monitor and control access to the data center, ensuring compliance with security policies.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement and enhance security measures.
Capacity Planning:
- Conduct capacity planning for server, storage, and network resources.
- Monitor resource utilization trends and make recommendations for upgrades or expansions.
- Work with vendors to procure and deploy additional hardware as needed.
Disaster Recovery and Backup:
- Implement and maintain disaster recovery and backup solutions.
- Conduct regular backup tests and ensure data recovery capabilities.
- Collaborate with the IT team to develop and update disaster recovery plans.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of data center configurations and procedures.
- Generate regular reports on data center performance, capacity, and incidents.
- Provide documentation for troubleshooting and resolution procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's with 12+ years (or commensurate experience)
Clearance Required:Secret
Required Skills and Experience
- BA/BS + 7 years recent specialized or AA/AS + 9 years recent specialized or a major cert + 11 years recent specialized or 13 years of recent specialized experience
- DOD 8570 IAT 3 compliance.
- Hold an Active Secret Clearance (no waiver) with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance
- Proven experience as a Data Center Engineer or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of data center technologies, server hardware, and networking.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent are a plus.
