The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in the Helmholtz Association is an international biomedical research center dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms of health and disease with the goal to devise new diagnostics and medicines. The MDC is a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest scientific organization, and offers an engaging research environment with cutting-edge research infrastructure. Currently, ~1250 employees and ~500 guest scientists work at the Berlin-Buch and Berlin-Mitte campuses. Our diverse workforce is a core strength that inspires creativity and innovation at the MDC.
The MDC is committed to improving human health through transformative biomedical research. Our goal is to pioneer discoveries for preventing, treating, and ultimately curing disease.
The Molecular Epidemiology Research Group at the MDC studies the relationship between lifestyle, genetic, metabolic, and environmental factors with risk and outcome of chronic diseases in human populations. We participate in the National Research Data Infrastructure for Personal Health Data (NFDI4Health), which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). NFDI4Health aims to create the most comprehensive inventory of German epidemiological, public health and clinical trial data. As part of NFDI4Health we focus on establishing and enabling services for distributed data analytics, including DataSHIELD.
Within the Molecular Epidemiology Research Group your task is to manage and work on the project NFDI4Health at the MDC. In collaboration with national partner of the consortium you will identify epidemiological studies on chronic diseases and on nutrition and collect metadata from these studies. You will contribute scientifically to adoption of (meta-)data publication, to the development of standards for data classification and harmonisation based on existing studies, and to implementation of data standards, data access infrastructures, data linkage approaches, and distributed data analyses infrastructures (via DataSHIELD. You will plan, conduct, and anaylze (using DataSHIELD, R, SAS, and similar programs) case studies and publish results in international scientific journals.
We are looking for a postdoc (m/f/d) with experience, expertise and a degree in epidemiology (MSE, MPH), and a degree in life sciences (nutrition, biology, etc.) or a medical degree. The candidate (m/f/d) should have experience in planning, conducting and analyzing epidemiological studies and in managing and conducting large research projects. The candidate (m/f/d) should also have experience in appropriate analysis software (SAS, R). Experience with DataSHIELD and German language skills are of advantage.
