The Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, Ernst-Mach-Institut, EMI offers you challenging and varied tasks with responsibility and creative flexibility. We conduct research on behalf of our customers from a wide range of economic and political sectors and apply the latest findings from science and research to concrete projects. The applications are in the fields of defence, security and resilience, automotive, aerospace and aviation.
With us, you can work in the future today
Would you like to contribute your expertise to innovation in Hydrogen Safety?
We are looking for you to strengthen our development team of the »APOLLO Blastsimulator«, a specialized CFD-tool dedicated to the simulation of explosions, blast waves, and gas dynamics. The development team is part of our »Materials and Simulation Methods« department in Freiburg..
Your challenges
Building the future
The future of civil and military transportation is based on hydrogen and similar energy carriers. We are investigating methods for safe hydrogen-based mobility and developing numerical methods for simulating explosions and using them to investigate hazards.
Use creativity and research flexibility
You will develop physics-based models and efficient algorithms for our CFD tool, the »APOLLO Blastsimulator« (Apollo Blastsimulator), thus expanding our services in the field of hydrogen safety. This also includes improving our interfaces for fluid-structure coupled simulations with e.g., LS-Dyna or our finite element code SOPHIA. In your day to day work, you will closely collaborate with the interdisciplinary »APOLLO Blastsimulator« development team.
Take responsibility
You will become the qualified and competent contact person for our internal and external customers in the field of hydrogen safety. You will also have the opportunity to shape the future development and marketing of our simulation tools. Your work will be rounded off by managing projects with public and industrial clients
Convey your message
Creativity requires a lot of communication: we want to shape teamwork together with you: You are an active participant of the scientific discourse. You will coordinate research work internally and externally with international project partners and present your research results through reports and publications to our clients and partners as well as at national and international conferences.
Your qualifikations and skills
- You have completed a university degree (Master/Diploma) in Engineering, an applied natural science or a related STEM subject, PhDs welcome.
- You have profound knowledge in both fluid and thermo dynamics as well as in numerical methods for CFD and structural mechanics.
- You are able to conduct simulation studies on HPC systems on your own, ideally with OpenFOAM or Ansys Fluent, you have experience in programming (Fortran, C++) and you know relevant IDEs and parallelization strategies.
- You use your ability to think and work analytically and conceptually in a results-oriented manner.
- With your independent, communicative and structured way of working, you enrich the interdisciplinary teamwork of our department.
- German and English language skills of at least C1 level in spoken and written round off your profile.
What we offer
- We are an innovative research institute with diverse topics, a high level of practical relevance and plenty of scope for your creativity and initiative.
- We are a young, engaged and dynamic team with exciting research questions at the cutting edge and also offer you the opportunity to help shape the strategic development of R&D topics.
- Here you will be part of a highly motivated team, in an open and collegial working environment equipped with an excellent IT infrastructure.
- We offer you professional and personal development prospects as well as Fraunhofer internal support programmes.
- Your work-life integration is important to us, which is why we offer flexible working time models and up to 50% mobile working from home.
- Our offer is complemented by our company pension scheme (VBL) and annual pro-rata Christmas bonus.
- Furthermore, you benefit from our additional benefits: job ticket, flexitime, overtime compensation, places at the "Junikäfer" day care centre in Freiburg, life coaching, homecare-eldercare.
