Creating Knowledge. Since 1502: Martin Luther Unive rsity Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) offers a wide range of
academic subjects in the areas of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and medicine. The oldest and
largest university in Saxony-Anhalt was created in 1817 when the University of Wittenberg (founded in 1502)
merged with Friedrichs University Halle (founded in 1694). Today the university has 340 professors and 20,000
students. Research at the university focuses on nano and life sciences, the Enlightenment, society and culture.
The Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Medical Faculty, Institute of Pathology (Section
Experimental Pathology, AG Hämmerle), is seeking a
Research scientist (m-f-d)
as full-time employment.
The position is available as soon as possible and limited to four years.
The salary will be up to Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L, if the personal requirements and tasks are fulfilled.
Tasks:
- Functional characterization of lncRNAs in pancreatic adenocarcinoma within the DFG-funded research unit
RU5433 “RNA in Focus”
- Identification of regulatory molecules of lncRNAs, in particular identification and characterization of RBPs
- Unravel novel therapeutic vulnerabilities in pancreatic adenocarcinoma using CRISPR-Cas9-screens
- Immunohistochemistry and In situ hybridizations for human and mouse tissue
- Independent writing of publications
- Supervision of internships, master or bachelor students as well as doctoral students in the lab
- Work on own scientific qualification is possible
Requirements:
- Master/diploma degree in the fields of life sciences (biochemistry, molecular medicine, or related)
- Completed experimental PhD thesis in the field of tumor biology and/or RNA biology is beneficial
- Excellent skills in biochemical and molecular biology techniques
- Excellent skills in mammalian cell culture (S1 and S2)
- Experience in RNA biology and genome engineering techniques (e.g. CRISPR/Cas9) is necessary
- Excellent understanding of cancer biology or RNA biology and statistics
- Knowledge of different databases (Pubmed, COSMIC, cBioPortal) is necessary
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written
- Experience with immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry is beneficial
- Willingness to work with laboratory animals is a must, experience with laboratory animals including Felasa B
certificate or equivalent is of advantage
- First and/or last author publications in high-ranked journals is beneficial
- Innovative, independent and reliable working behavior paired with high intrinsic motivation
- Proactive team player with a readiness of mind and a strong passion for science
