The Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapeutics (Director Hannes Klump) RWTH Aachen University Hospital, Aachen, Germany, is offering the following position as a
Group Leader (f/m/d)
on development and expansion of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) from pluripotent stem cells (human and mouse), translation control during self-renewal and differentiation of HPSCs, and development of novel cell-based therapeutics based on RNA-transfer.
The fulltime positions (38,5 h/week) starts as soon as possible and is immediately available as a permanent position.
The Candidate must have a PhD, MD, or an equivalent degree in biology, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, molecular medicine or similar disciplines.
The Group Leader candidate is expected to have a strong background in cell and molecular biology as well as ribosome profiling, RNA-biochemistry and biology, and a significant track record of publications in these areas. The candidate must have a record of substantial third-party funding and should be experienced in the management and coordination of research consortia or graduate schools. Broad and substantial teaching experience in Biology, Biochemistry and Genetics is required.

The Group Leader candidate is expected to successfully apply for external research funding, to attract excellent trainees, students, and future researchers, and to conduct and organize independent and interdisciplinary research in the highly collaborative environment of RWTH Aachen University. Teaching at the graduate level and supervision of technical and scientific personnel is required.
The Group Leader candidate should have
- extensive experience as an independent research group leader
- ideally carry a habilitation (or equivalent qualification)
- independently organize teaching in the fields of Biology, Biochemistry and Genetics for students of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Medicine with a focus on gene-regulation, RNA-Biochemistry, translation control, and non-viral gene transfer
- develop and supervise the generation of novel cell therapeutics such as iPSC-derived HSPCs or CAR-expressing immune cells by RNA-based, non-viral gene transfer
- be familiar with the design, supervision, and interpretation of preclinical studies for studying human genetic diseases
- high intrinsic motivation to translate findings into novel cell-based therapies or personalized medicine
- The candidate should be a team player with excellent sense of responsibility, high competency in personnel management and communication
- Excellent competence in writing and communication in English is required (Level C2), ideally also in German
