Scientist Plant Phenotyping (all genders), Frankfurt a.M.
Bayer is looking for a highly motivated and creative independent scientist (all genders) who will be working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary R&D environment to accelerate and improve the development of novel, safe and sustainable crop protection compounds. You will be part of a diverse team of experts in the plant physiology and computational life science hubs and become a member of Bayer’s innovative Life Science Collaboration (LSC) initiative.
You will contribute to the discovery of these small molecules by designing, performing, and analyzing high throughput in vivo experiments in our advanced plant phenotyping platform in order to identify novel, resistance-breaking herbicides.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designing and performing high throughput plant phenotyping experiments, this includes all steps from plant cultivation to the operation of our in-house profiling platform as well as proper experimental design for later biostatistical analysis
- Managing and propagating our stock of different plant mutants; selecting appropriate genetic backgrounds to enhance the power of our plant phenotyping experiments
- Scientific analysis, interpretation, and presentation of plant phenotyping experiments
- Active participation in the development of new assays for our phenotyping platform in collaboration with different stakeholders from plant physiology and data science
- Active generation of project-related ideas for follow-up experiments and acquisition of new equipment
WHO YOU ARE
- PhD in life sciences or MSc with several years of lab experience
- Expertise in molecular biology in both theory (focus on genetics and molecular pathways) and practice in the design, analysis, and interpretation of biological experiments
- Knowledge of plant physiology and imaging technologies is a plus as is knowledge of a programming language for data analysis e.g. R or Python
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and take decisions in a multidisplinary project
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, intercultural knowledge and understanding, ability to work in culturally and technologically diverse teams
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken, a basic knowledge of German is highly welcome but not required
