Senior Field Applications Scientist - Germany (Stuttgart/Tuebingen/Ulm)
As a Senior Field Applications Scientist here at Illumina, you will be the first technical point of contact in the field for Illumina customers. The successful applicant will be part of an award-winning customer support team that leads the industry in customer satisfaction. The Field Applications Scientist partners with customers to provide technical training, troubleshooting, and complaint resolution. This position serves as a scientific consultant during pre- and post-sales activities and will collaborate with broader commercial team to maximize sales growth and customer satisfaction.
It is essential for the successful candidate to be based in one of the following locations within Germany: Stuttgart, Tuebingen, Ulm or surrounding area. This is a Field Based role which will require travel up to 70%, and it is essential that the candidate appointed is flexible and willing to travel with a valid driving license within Germany. Fluent/Native language skills in both German and English also are essential.

Why You:
You will have a scientific background with a degree in a relevant subject such as Molecular Biology, Biology or Genomics and will have previous experience working within the Biotech sector, preferably in the field supporting customers. Knowledge of genomics, sequencing applications and methods that apply to Illumina technology are highly preferred with software/bioinformatics skills and experience also being highly preferred.
This role requires troubleshooting, communication, time management, situational awareness, poise under pressure, and collaboration. You will be expected to build and maintain strong relationships across territory Service and Support teams, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, and Quality organizations.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate new installations, including facility inspections, instrument validation, and customer training. Review and approve operational quality of equipment and instruct customers in operations and maintenance of system.
- Troubleshoot issues related to user's technical skills, biochemistry/assay design, experimental design, software and instruments. Interpret customer needs and identify if the responsibility for a problem resolution falls to sales personnel, engineering, or other company personnel. Escalate to appropriate internal resources as necessary to maximize customer uptime and minimize customer effort.
- Support CE-IVD-labeled diagnostic products in addition to the entire Illumina portfolio.
- Regularly communicate essential technical product updates to external customers and Sales counterparts to drive customer success.
- Contribute to customer relationship management, understanding customer goals, setting appropriate product and performance expectations, and gathering intelligence regarding competitive information and new sales opportunities.
- Partner with other functional roles and colleagues under the Illumina team selling model that includes various specialist roles, (key) account managers, district sales managers, and Inside Sales to execute on and assist with the development of strategic plans for winning new business and expanding current customer growth and success through consulting, presentations, workshops, demonstrations, and seminars.
- Participate in departmental project teams; work collaboratively to execute project plans.
