In this pivotal role, you will be a key player in our Social Engagement investment team, driving our Sustainability for Generations ambition to impact the lives of 50 million people by 2030.
Your mission? To invest first for impact, leveraging the technical assistance of our dedicated employees to scale and sustain the business models of early-stage social startups. This is an opportunity to scale up and expand our Making More Health (MMH) social business activities beyond our current donation-based approaches. By investing in selected social startups with high-impact potential, you will be part of our journey to make a difference. Although our initial focus will be Sub-Saharan Africa, we are looking towards a near-term global expansion.

- In your new role, you will be closely linked to all ongoing initiatives in Sustainability Social and Making More Health and you will be working closely with our Making More Health Social Business team in Nairobi, which supports young social startups with grants and donations to develop them towards investments.
- You will lead investments for Boehringer Ingelheim Social Engagement into high impact social startups, initially in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Identifying investment targets and conducting the evaluation and due diligence will be one of your key tasks.
- You will represent Boehringer Ingelheim Social Engagement as an observer in the Supervisory Board of the portfolio companies on a case-to-case basis, and you guide and refine the strategy of these companies with the aim to help them achieve the impact target and the successful scale up of their business models.
- By that, you will contribute to the building of a highly innovative and well-balanced portfolio of social startups, in line with the investment strategy.
- You will work closely with a network of like-minded partners, such as other corporates, investors, foundations, NGO´s, public sectors, to develop high and impactful alliances, together with Boehringer Ingelheim Social Engagement.
- Lastly, you will manage the individual portfolio companies and alliances of Boehringer Ingelheim Social Engagement.
- Master’s degree (e. g. MBA, MSc), preferably in a field related to impact investing, e. g. finance, sustainability
- Several years of working experience and strong background in the field of impact investing
- Good understanding of social startups, impact reporting, impact measurement and venture capital
- Strong business acumen paired with very good communication, negotiation and presentation skills
- Strategic thinking and striving for innovation in impact financing
- Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken)
