We are looking for a new team member who will be primarily responsible for MPS consultancy services provided by the JetBrains MPS team. The main goal of this position would be helping our customers apply the MPS technology in an efficient and reliable way. With excellent technical and communication skills, you will be involved both in customer project development as well as possible improvements to the MPS platform itself.

Your primary responsibility will be to assist MPS customers with their projects. You will be helping a dedicated development team on the customer side with project-related tasks, ranging from architectural design and prototype development to bringing the final product to market. Usually, a JetBrains / MPS consultant is involved in the customer project at the starting phase to help kick it off and establish the best development trajectory. At a later phase, the consultant passes most of their responsibilities to the customer’s development team.

You can expect to encounter a wide range of challenges, starting from very high-level system architecture design through the implementation of specific subsystems to smaller technical and integration issues. Though these tasks vary significantly, they are all important for helping customers successfully adopt the final product in a specific environment.

An important aspect of this position is collecting and accumulating domain-specific knowledge as well as the related MPS-based DSL design and development ideas. You will be in a unique position to cultivate knowledge about different customer domains in a short period of time, and we would like to translate that knowledge effectively into the future MPS-based DSLs. In this respect, the ability to do research and learn quickly is very important.

As an MPS consultant, you will not just be expected to develop code on the customer side. In this role, you would also advocate for the customer’s project inside the MPS team. You will have a chance to generalize any type of problems encountered while working on the customer’s project, converting them into general feature requests or platform improvements, and possibly implementing them yourself.

• Experience in software architecture design.
• 5+ years of Java development experience.
• Ability to solve complex and challenging problems.
• Ability to write clear, reliable, expressive, and stable code.
• Ability to develop prototypes or proofs of concept for future solutions.
• Ability to teach yourself new skills, including the ability to learn new technologies and engineering domains quickly.
• Ability to formulate improvement requests and properly communicate them to the development team.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Fluency in English.
