The
Heidelberg Center for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) of Heidelberg University is looking to fill the following position (full time) by 1 October 2023 as
Akademischer Mitarbeiter – Assistant Professor (f/m/d)
within its Department of Cultural Economic History, headed by Prof. Harald Fuess. The place of employment is Heidelberg. The salary is predicated on the German public sector remuneration system (TV-L 13, 39,5 h/week). The position is initially limited for 2 years.
Your tasks:
- Pursue your own postdoctoral project and contribute to the department’s and institute’s transcultural research agenda
- Conceptualize and actively engage in various formats of scholarly exchange (workshops, joint grant applications etc.)
- Teach two courses per semester (English medium) in the M.A. Transcultural Studies as well as within the joint M.A. degree with Kyoto University, with a focus on “Society, Economics and Governance”
- Provide pastoral support for students
- Actively engage in academic liaison with our HeKKSaGOn partner universities (Kyoto, Tohoku and Osaka) and Seoul National University
Your profile:
- An excellent doctoral degree (or equivalent) in the fields of history, political economy, international relations or a related Asian area studies discipline
- An innovative and feasible postdoctoral project suited to the department, ideally exploring international dimensions of modern history
- Excellent knowledge of English and Japanese
- Knowledge of German and Korean is an asset but not a necessity
- An interest in and readiness to engage in transdisciplinary cooperation
