What you will do
The Intellectual Property Group – a global team of over 50 patent attorneys has the mission to strengthen the IP position of our products and research activities. You will contribute to the continued grow and defense of our intellectual property assets.
This full-time position is based at Amgen’s R&D site in Munich, Germany, a state-of-the-art research and development facility and is open to remote applicants as well.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Senior Counsel is responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications in support of a variety of research and development programs or marketed products.
- The attorney works directly with scientists both at the Amgen Research Munich site as well as in other locations, in order to identify and evaluate potential inventions.
- Developing and implementing IP strategies for products and product candidates.
- The Senior Counsel works closely with various internal business units and other law groups as part of a multidisciplinary project team, in order to provide legal advice to internal stakeholders.
- Monitoring competitors’ activities.
- Carrying out third party (FTO) analyses.
- Assisting with litigation-related matters and challenging/defending patents in opposition and other forums.
- Providing assistance regarding IP-related contractual matters.
- Assess strengths and weaknesses in IP exclusivity position and FTO situation.
REQUIREMENTS
Basic qualifications:
Doctorate degree & qualified European Patent Attorney.
Preferred qualifications & Competencies:
- Possess an excellent educational background to PhD level in biology, biotechnology or biochemistry, with a sound scientific and technical knowledge in the relevant fields of molecular and cell biology, genetics, and immunology.
- Be a qualified European Patent Attorney.
- Possess at least 5 years working experience in the IP field, have a working knowledge of global patent law, as well as understanding of other major patent systems in addition to the EP system.
- Demonstrate ability and desire to work with diverse teams in meeting corporate goals and missions, be able to operate effectively at all levels.
- Possess strong analytical skills, pay attention to detail.
- Have a creative, resilient and flexible style and approach to solving legal problems.
- Ability to prioritize workflow, to meet demanding deadlines, and to manage multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Be fluent in both written and spoken English.
- Strong client service, business counseling and problem-solving focus.
